EzSEO Newsletter # 66
by Andy Williams ez SEO
This week:
1. "If it was that easy, everyone would be doing it."
2. Stop spambots getting your address
3. Duplicate Content?
4. Other news
Hi all
Today's newsletter will be quite short - I have a bad cold and want to get back to bed ;o) Because of this, there is not SEO Detective this week.
It has been fun and games this week. My daughter started on solid food - if you can call it that (mashed up fruit).
While we all take eating for granted, it is amazing to watch a baby learning how to eat off a spoon. Her little tongue seems to push everything back out, as we keep shovelling it back in. Still, she certainly seems to have a good go, lunging at the spoon with her opened mouth. As you can imagine, laundry is pilling up faster than ever before.
OK, onto the newsletter.
This week I received more emails asking my opinion about X or Y software that claims to get high rankings. I even had a couple of people tell me that my article last week on what to do if your site isn't getting traffic was interesting, then proceed to ask me how they could improve traffic to their site!
Believe me, there is no secret. The simple 5 step plan published last week really is the answer. These emails inspired the first section of today's newsletter, but before we get on to that, let me just leave you with one thought.
"You can spend you life looking for shortcuts to high rankings, or you can work hard and make them happen."
1. "If it was that easy, everyone would be doing it."
Have you heard this before?
I have, many times. A lot of people think that making money with affiliate programs cannot be that easy. These same people will argue that the only people making money are the people who sell the information on how to make money with affiliate programs.
While it is certainly true that a few people do make money selling how-to information, it is certainly not true that they are the only ones making money.
Think about this statement for a minute:
"If it was that easy, everyone would be doing it."
Do you believe that statement is true?
My answer to this statement is simple. It is not that easy, because it requires:
1. Discipline
2. Belief
3. Commitment
4. Hard Work
These are characteristics which few possess, therefore few succeed.
I remember when my wife and I started our first site out of necessity after we both found ourselves out of work. We did not get much support from family, and in fact it was mentioned that we should stop playing around and find proper jobs. However, we had the discipline, belief, commitment and we worked hard.
Needless to say that the lack of support we initially received disappeared once the cheques started to come in.
A word of advice. Make a commitment to your future by adopting these 4 characteristics, and you will succeed. And remember, there are a lot of people doing it, just many are too busy making money to find the time to tell you about it.
2. Stop spambots getting your address
If you need a way for your website visitors to contact you, you need to supply an email address on your site. However, in doing so, you might be opening the spam gates to your inbox. Little pieces of code nicknamed Spambots, scour the internet looking for email addresses on web pages. When they find them, they collect the email address and add it to their database. Once the database is large enough, the owner of the spambot may either send out his/her own spam, or sell off the list of email addresses to other spammers. Before you know it, your inbox is flooded with spam.
This can be very distressing. Fortunately, these spambots are not very clever. There are ways to hide your email address. I have included a couple of links to software that can help below. These are f.ree to use.

In addition, a nice simple way of preventing bots from harvesting your email address is to create a small graphic with your email address printed on it. Then just use that on your site. Anyone who wants to contact you can by typing in your address manually.
3. Duplicate Content?
In Phil Wiley's last newsletter, he mentioned a way of using the Nicheology products as content for his websites.
However, one person on Phil's forum mentioned that this would lead to a lot of duplicate content on the internet, and that would prevent you from getting your pages into Google. That person cited an example where they had seen several pages built with the same content from a Nicheology product in Google.
Do you see the problem?
Well, my first thought is that if this person found several pages built with the same content, those pages obviously got into Google without a problem, so maybe there is no problem. However, this is a short-termed view.
What you need to do if following Phil's advice is this:
1. Carry out keyword research to find out what people are looking for?
2. Chose realistic phrases to target, then use the Nicheology content as a reference material to help you write YOUR OWN UNIQUE content based around those phrases.
3. Link to all the pages of content from within your site so the search engines can find the new content. Use keyword rich link text.
4. Get links into your site from other sites (link exchanges or from articles submitted to article submission sites).
Does this sound familiar? It should! It is the same 5 point strategy outlined last week for getting traffic to your site. I just modified to work for Nicheology.
If this all sounds like too much work, I suggest you consider giving up on the idea of making a living online. It is not as easy as some people would have you believe.
Remember:
"You can spend you life looking for shortcuts to high rankings, or you can work hard and make them happen."

++ Niche Blueprint News ++
The first Niche Blueprint for sale is almost ready. No clues yet on the topic, but let me tell you I have chosen a fiercely competitive niche market where the EPC of many merchants on Commission Junction is between $40 - $50. That means affiliate earnings are in that range per 100 clicks. Not bad at all. In addition, Adsense earnings on the keywords I have chosen should be very good indeed, and the best part? The keywords I have found have a low enough competition to allow you to get good rankings.
This blueprint will be offered to my SEO WSB customers first, though only via the members forum (so check back often this week SEO WSBers, I wont be sending out a notification via my customer list).
Whatever is left from the 100 blueprints will then be offered to those who have signed up for Niche Blueprint Notifications. If you want notification of its release, sign up here:

++ Link Machine News ++
As regular readers will know, I have switched over my link building from Arelis, to a new tool called LinkMachine:
http://ez-search-engine-optimization.com/linkmachine
The software license allows you to create link campaigns for three of your sites. However, for those of you with a lot more than 3 sites, Michael has a special upgrade plan whereby you can upgrade to a 50 site license for $200. That is just $4 per site, and well worth it if your empire is big enough.
This offer may well be removed in the near future. Michael told me it was added as an incentive to build up the user base. Once that has been accomplished, the price may go back to $10 per additional site.
